Job Description

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is Scotland’s national awarding and accreditation body. We are trusted to oversee thousands of qualifications that are available in schools, colleges and workplaces, not just in this country, but around the world.

We are looking for four New Product Development Managers to work within the Next Generation project, through the development of Higher National Qualifications and the joint SQA and SDS activity on apprenticeships and standards. Our SQA Academy e-learning module, ‘What is NextGen: HN?’ provides more information about this activity.

The role will involve collaboration with subject specialists and a range of internal and external stakeholders as we engage with new ways of working in SQA, centres and wider stakeholders in support of the development of new types of qualifications and assessments.

To be successful in this role you will understand product design and development, how to ensure new product types are based on a clear understanding of user needs and how to translate these needs into products that can be efficiently and cost-effectively implemented to meet them. You will be able to demonstrate a track record of success based on cross-organisational collaboration in the development of new products and ability to lead product development teams.

You will apply this expertise to enhance and accelerate new product developments already underway within SQA working closely with a range of stakeholders. You will also proactively identify and develop new co-creation opportunities within the Scottish education sector as well as working with the expertise of the organisation to identify and build on additional opportunities.

In order to do this you must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of product development, management and team leadership, preferably in the further education sector.
  • Ability to work successfully at pace in a fast changing environment to meet ambitious timelines while delivering to a high quality standard
  • Sound understanding and application of the principles of learning, teaching and assessment
  • Experience of the development and use of digital approaches to learning and assessment.

Applicants, as a minimum, should be educated to SCQF Level 9 and/or be able to demonstrate direct relevant experience for this role. Experience of the Scottish Education sector would be advantageous but not essential.

You will also role model the behaviours associated with SQA’s values (Trusted, Progressive and Enabling) in order to develop and sustain a productive and positive culture.

SQA offer a fantastic benefits package in return for your talent. These include but are not limited to a career average pension scheme; staff well-being and health assistance programmes; development opportunities and 27 days annual leave in addition to 14 days public holiday.

If you think you’ve got the skills, knowledge and experience required to succeed in this exciting opportunity please apply below.
